Patient Med 3 Request (Coronavirus Self-Isolating)
If you require a doctor’s note because you are self-isolating due to the Coronavirus Outbreak please do not contact the Practice. Patients can obtain an isolation note online from NHS 111 but only if you are following the government advice on symptoms or they been told to stay off work by NHS 111 or a healthcare professional.
We are all excited to hear about the progress on a Covid vaccine and that this should improve the quality of life for all of us.
We know that you, like us, are struggling with the confines imposed upon us all due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Everyone is trying to make the best of the situation and, as a practice, we are committed to caring for you in the best possible way whilst keeping both you and our team safe.
To keep you as informed as possible, we will update these messages frequently as we become aware of more information from NHS England:
- Some hospitals have now received the Pfizer/BioNTech Covid vaccine and are starting to invite patients in for their vaccine
- Some GP practices will start to receive the Pfizer/BioNTech Covid vaccine this week and are inviting patients in for their vaccine.
- We will let you know the specific local Covid vaccination plans as soon as we can
- Please do not telephone us to ask when or if you are going to get a Covid Vaccine.
- We will contact you individually if and when you are invited to have a vaccine and will keep this website updated.
- The vaccine will be given in order of priority to those at highest risk first.
- Please act on your invitation when it comes, and make sure you attend your appointments.
- It is essential, if you are given a vaccine, that you return for the second part of the vaccination on the date that you are advised to.
- Please continue to abide by all the social distancing and hand hygiene guidance, which will still save lives.
Meanwhile, we all need to keep to the advice of hand-washing, face masks and social distancing but we all look forward to the time when we will return to life as normal.

DoctorLink - Register Now
Due to the increasing demands on General Practice, we are looking at new ways of managing the needs of our patients and access to our services. Merchiston and other Swindon Practices are introducing a new online system called DoctorLink to improve access and assist with directing our patients to the best care available.
Registration is simple & available to anyone age 16+. Click on the button below to begin the registration process, it only takes a few minutes!
Once registered, DoctorLink will ask you a number of questions to help identify and assess your problem. The outcome of your assessment will direct you to the right treatment, whether that be from us or another provider which may include one of the Swindon based SUCCESS centres. Please ensure you read the advice given carefully and follow the outcome instructions to receive the right care.
Merchiston Surgery no longer uses Doctorlink. To book an appointment please call the Surgery.
Patients who cannot use the service because of age (under 16) disability or difficulty with internet access will also be triaged as normal. We feel that using DoctorLink will allow patients to be signposted correctly the first time to the most appropriate treatment.
We will continually monitor this new system and make further changes where necessary. If you have some feedback, we'd love to hear it!
